One tooth, multiple teeth or a set of teeth can be replaced with implants. The implant ($3000) is placed in the jawbone using local anaesthesia, and if required twilight (IV) sedation or general anaesthesia. Once the implant has fused with the bone (osseo-integration) which can take a few months, the tooth can be placed. In certain circumstances implants can be placed immediately after tooth removal, and a temporary tooth can be placed onto the implant, or as in most cases a temporary appliance or denture is worn until osseo-integration has occurred.
Gum disease can affect implants, and good dental hygiene is important to reduce possible complications. Dental implants are not suitable for everyone, and alternatives such as with a single tooth gap and existing adjacent teeth, a missing tooth can be replaced by a conventional crown bridge restoration, or a removable prosthesis like a partial denture.
Our periodontist will examine the patient’s teeth, gums and overall oral health including bone density and quantity during the consultation. After the examination, our periodontist will discuss the different treatment options.
